It seems like it should be a simple solution to me - the school isn't serving its purpose, namely, to teach children. The parents say, because of that, it's time to try another way. Why on earth would teachers unions be against this? Their criticism seems to indicate that they believe the status quo was fine, and should be continued, as-is. If they care as much as they claim, why wouldn't they be on board with any changes that better the education that the students receive?
